Caring for marble and travertine
Marble and travertine are beautiful natural stones, appreciated for their unique patterns and textures. While durable, they are porous and highly susceptible to etching from acids and staining from coloured liquids, which can permanently alter their appearance.
How to clean marble and travertine
For daily cleaning, gently wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. For light dirt, add a few drops of mild, pH-neutral washing-up liquid to warm water, then wipe, rinse with clean water, and dry immediately with a soft towel to prevent water spots. Never use abrasive pads, acidic cleaners like vinegar or lemon juice, or harsh chemical sprays.
Removing marks and stains
Address spills immediately by blotting, not wiping. For stubborn stains, create a thick paste (poultice) using baking soda and a small amount of water or hydrogen peroxide, apply it to the stain, cover with plastic wrap, and let it sit for several hours or overnight before rinsing and drying. Etching, which appears as dull spots from acidic contact, typically requires professional refinishing to repair.
Protecting your stone with a sealer
Sealing is crucial for items frequently exposed to liquids, such as trays or tables, as it creates a barrier against stains by reducing the stone's porosity. Apply a high-quality penetrating stone sealer specifically designed for marble and travertine, following the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Reapply the sealer every one to two years, or more often if the stone is heavily used, to maintain its protective qualities.
What will damage marble and travertine
Avoid all contact with acidic substances, including citrus juices, vinegar, alcohol, and many common household cleaners, as these will etch the stone, leaving permanent dull marks. Protect surfaces from direct heat, heavy impacts, and abrasive materials. Always use coasters under drinks and soft felt pads under decorative items to prevent scratches and rings.
Shipping and delivery
Shipping is free worldwide on most orders. Orders are prepared within one to three days, and most arrive 9 to 18 days after you order.
Large and heavy pieces, such as furniture, can carry a delivery charge because they ship as freight rather than as a parcel. Any charge is calculated from your address and shown at checkout before you pay, so nothing is added afterwards.
Every piece is checked before it leaves the workshop, and every order is sent with tracking so you can follow it to your door.
